About Thom Fennessey
American-born, Zurich and London-bred, and based in Los Angeles, Thom’s producing career spans over three decades, with a specialization in music videos, commercials, documentaries, and short films.
MUSIC VIDEO PRODUCTION:
Thom has produced videos for major artists, including The Chainsmokers, Mariah Carey, Creed, Andra Day, Foo Fighters, Elton John, Alicia Keys, Katy Perry, OKGO, Rage Against the Machine, Shinedown, Steve Perry, Swizz Beatz, and Michael Jackson, among many others.
COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION:
Thom has produced global advertising for brands like Amazon, AT&T, American Airlines, American Express, Bacardi, Chevrolet, Dolby, Ford, Jeep, McDonald’s, Mercedes, L’Oreal, SK2, Pinterest, Sony, Toll Brothers, and Vizio. Much of his commercial work is characterized by high production values.
He’s also produced numerous health and drug commercials over the years, with the most horrible-sounding side effects.
FILM & DOCUMENTARIES:
Served as the Los Angeles line producer for the original Robert Durst interviews in HBO’s Emmy-winning series “The Jinx: The Lives and Deaths of Robert Durst”.
Produced the award-winning short film “West of the Moon”, which won 18 international awards, including the Aspen and Santa Barbara Film Festivals.
Executive produced the short film “Record/Play”, which was shortlisted for a 2014 Academy Award.
Executive produced “Today You, Tomorrow Me” , reinforcing the message of helping one’s neighbor regardless of differences.
Produced “The Bridge” with Mercedes Mason, which she directed. Currently on the festival circuit, it has collected 14 awards to date.
Stanford University Capital Campaign: In 2008, Thom produced a documentary as part of a capital campaign for Stanford’s Undergraduate Education Program, which helped the university surpass its alumni fundraising goals by $6.3 billion.
Recently completed work on the Los Angeles portion of the new Peter Greenaway film “Tower Stories” starring Dustin Hoffman and Helen Hunt.
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Ad Council – “Rising”: Fennessey served as producer for this powerful short film/commercial directed by David Nutter (Game of Thrones). Part of the “Love Has No Labels” movement, it was The Ad Council’s first short film, which promoted inclusion and acceptance, winning numerous One Show awards, after premiering simultaneously on Amazon, Showtime, YouTube, and other platforms.
He has produced several hard-hitting social justice films and PSAs, including “Posts Into Letters”, which featured Parkland school shooting survivors and was aimed at pressuring Congress for legislative change on gun control.
AWARDS RECOGNITION:
His short film work has earned multiple accolades at international festivals, including the LA Film Festival, Cannes, Aspen, Santa Barbara, Berlin, Rome, and Sundance Film Festivals. His work has earned recognition from the Emmys, Grammys, Cannes Lions, ProMax, D&AD, One Show, VH1 awards, and Clio Awards, among others.
